UNR Receives Grant To Help Improve Early Earthquake Warning System

The University of Nevada, Reno is getting a portion of a $12.5 million grant to improve an earthquake warning system.

The U.S. Geological Survey awarded the grant to seven universities and a university-governed non-profit to improve and expand the ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system for the West Coast.
The Nevada Seismological Lab at UNR covers Nevada, plus parts of California along the eastern Sierra Nevada and Death Valley.
Nevada is the third most seismically active state in the country.
